FTC sends payments to service providers.

The FTC is sending 18,848 payments totaling more than $1.1 million to service providers who were charged for mHelpDesk and filed a valid claim before the deadline.

According to the FTC’s complaint, HomeAdvisor made false, misleading, or unsubstantiated claims about the quality and source of the leads it was selling to home service providers in search of potential customers. The agency also said that HomeAdvisor told members that their annual membership included one free month of mHelpDesk, but that wasn’t true. The optional service cost an additional $59.99 for the first month and renewed each month unless canceled. HomeAdvisor paid money to settle, which the FTC is using to provide refunds.

The FTC first sent payments in November 2023 to service providers that signed up and paid for customer service leads from HomeAdvisor, which resulted in nearly $1.8 million in refunds. Now, the FTC is sending payments to members who were charged for mHelpDesk.
