Entry-Level Attorney Program

The Bureau of Competition recruits third year law students, joint degree candidates, and judicial clerks with an exceptional level of commitment to protecting consumers by enforcing the nation’s antitrust laws.  Those selected are hired as law clerks and are converted to attorney positions upon attaining bar membership.  A background in business or economics is preferred.

Application to the Bureau of Competition’s Entry-Level Attorney Program is limited to students in their final year of law school, joint degree candidates, and judicial clerks from accredited law schools.  Candidates who are admitted to the bar should check USAJobs for other openings.

Compensation

Law clerks with a JD or equivalent are hired through advance commitment at a Grade 11, Step 7 salary scale.  Judicial clerks or other candidates with an advanced degree in a related field may be compensated up to the Grade 12, Step 5 level.  Exact salary will be determined by an individual applicant’s qualifications.  If you are a non-US citizen, please see the Citizenship Requirements below for additional information

Start Dates

Law clerks are hired for a fourteen-month appointment pending bar admission, and generally begin work in October.  Law clerk title changes to Attorney upon bar admission (must be licensed and authorized to practice as an attorney under the laws of a State, Territory, the District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico).
