Re: Internet Access to Public Information

Dear Mr. Secretary:

It is my understanding that the Commission has requested additional contents as a result of the hearing held recently on June 10, 1997.

I am a licensed private investigator, a licensed protection specialist and a registered process server. Routinely, I utilize both public and non-public records in the furtherance of serving the judicial system, and toward resolving such matters as stalkers, deadbeat parents, missing relatives and many, many more, similar circumstances.

Therefore, I support a proposition which does not involve governmental regulation. In the past, governmental regulation of public information has resulted in major fiascos, negatively impacting the needs of individuals.

On a routine basis, my services serve individuals, saves lives, jobs and careers, and improves the quality of life of people. Inhibiting access to public records would have a negative impact on a great many lives.

I strongly support self regulation within the arena of public records.

I thank you for your attention to this.

Sincerely,

George Michael Newman
