Specifically, those dialers that call several numbers at once, and "hang up" on consumers if no agent is available to spew the pitch, are intrusive, abusive, and should be outlawed. In addition, telemarketers MUST be required to provide Caller ID information on ALL calls they make. This would not only assist those people with the proper service/equipment in identifying the calling party, it would help in the prosecution of any miscreants that are violating the law. This requirement should be levied IN ADDITION TO the ID requirements already contained in the Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991 (TCPA) and NOT be "in lieu of". Stiff civil damages and a Private Right of Action, such as those contained in the TCPA would certainly help. Wayne Strang |
