Esther Dyson
Esther Dyson is author of the Release 0.9 blog and editor at large for CNET Networks. From 1983 to 2006, she was editor of the Release 1.0 newsletter and organizer of PC Forum, both properties purchased from Dyson and a partner by CNET Networks in 2004. Additionally, Dyson is an active investor in and advisor to start-up companies, mostly in the technology field. Her investments/advisory roles include Meetup.com (board seat), eventful.com (board seat), NewspaperDirect (board seat), Voxiva, Midentity Ltd., PGP, Vizu, ActiveWeave, PowerSet, ChoiceStream (advisory board), TerraLink, EPAM and GridPoint.
She is also active in industry affairs. She was chairman of the Electronic Frontier Foundation in the 90s and was instrumental in the creation of TrustE. From 1998 to 200, she was founding chairman of ICANN, the international agency that sets policy for the Domain Name System. She is also a trustee of the Santa Fe Institute, the Eurasia Foundation and the National Endowment for Democracy.
