Dear Sir/Madam: I am taking the time to write to express my strong opposition to the proposed Business Opportunity Rule R51193. I respect the responsibility of the FTC to protect the public from "unfair and deceptive acts or practices," but the rule as proposed would make it very difficult for me to operate my business as a successful Shaklee Independent Distributor. There are many confusing and burdensome sections of the proposed rule and one of the most confusing is the 7 day waiting period to enroll new distributors. When I sell to people, they want to sign an application to purchase the products at wholesale prices. They want to purchase the products from me that day. Not seven days from then. They are consumers who want a discount. If down the road, they decide to become a distributor, they then give Shaklee their Social Security number. There is no additional fee or application required. The Shaklee Member Kit is only $19.95 and everything I sell has a money back guarantee. The way this rule is written would be an administrative burden and could damage the businesses of thousands of Shaklee distributors, who by the way, are helping to boost the economy of this country!!!! I have been a Shaklee Distributor for 23 years and have helped thousands of people have better health. Please do not cripple my business and thus me helping people to Be Well!! Additionally, my husband and I depend upon this additional income to help us supplement our budget in retirement. While I appreciate the work of the FTC to protect consumers I believe this new rule has many unintended consequences for direct sellers and that there are less burdensome alternatives available to the agency to achieve its goals. I appreciate your time in considering my comments, Lyn Schloemer
