I am writing to ask that you reconsider some of the requirements you are proposing to regulate the direct sales industry. I am a PartyLite Consultant who is starting her 15th year in this business. I began my PartyLite business in June of 1992. My husband suffered a severe head injury from his job and it was at that moment I realized how important family is and vowed to be a huge part in my daughters lives. The income I earn has allowed me to stay home and watch my two daughters grow up, attend the college of their choice, graduate, get married and now in October the birth of my first grandchild, which I will help raise while my daughter goes back to work, as a school teacher. In addition, I have brought many people into this business, who have also been able to use this opportunity to support themselves and their families. The proposals you are suggesting would make my business much more difficult and possibly impact my income. Specifically, in terms of the references requirement, I would never feel comfortable providing the personal contact information of other people in PartyLite, nor would I want my own personal information given out freely. One of the best things about this business is that anyone can start this business and be earning money within a timeframe of two weeks. Most people join PartyLite wanting and often needing to earn money right away, and your proposal would make them wait even longer. I feel very good about sharing PartyLite's very real business opportunity with others, and want to continue to easily introduce PartyLite to more people who could benefit as I have. The regulations you are proposing would hinder me from doing so - and would hinder others in starting their business in the timeframe they choose. Please know that I am thankful that we have the FTC working to protect average consumers like me, but in this case, you will be working against me, impacting my income, my future and my family's future. Please reconsider the regulations you are proposing. Respectfully yours, Karen Zaleski
