Comments:

PartyLite has been in business for over 33 years. This bill is aimed at a minute number of multi-level marketing companies that may abuse or scam the public but the vast majority of multi-level marketing companies belonging to the DIRECT SALES ASSOCIATION are not only meeting but exceeding the guidelines established by that organization. These 2 stipulations are especially objectionable. (1) requiring a 7 day waiting period before being able to join and (2) requiring 10 references from existing consultants to give to the new prospect. They would involve not only so much additional paperwork and also loss of interest on the part of the new prospective consultant but could be construed as an invasion of privacy by these 10 consultants/leaders. - . The analogy that comes to mind regarding this bill is the one whereby someone takes a cannon in order to kill a fly. Surely there is a more intelligent way to protect the public. I, and everyone else connected with the overwhelming reputable multi-level marketing companies, am requesting that the above-stated portions be removed from this bill. Thank you. Sincerely, Linda Chiles PartyLite Consultant
