Dear Federal Trade Commission Member: I am writing to ask that you reconsider some of the requirements you are proposing to regulate the direct sales industry. I am a PartyLite Consultant who has been proud to be involved in this business for 2 months. I began my PartyLite business to allow me income while I am the main caregiver for my 84 year old Mom. The income I earn has allowed me to have a flexabilty of when I'm not at home and still have my own money. The proposals you are suggesting would make my business much more difficult and possibly impact my income. Specifically, in terms of the references requirement, I would never feel comfortable providing the personal contact information of other people in PartyLite, nor would I want my own personal information given out freely. I feel good about sharing PartyLite’s very real business opportunity with others, and want to continue to easily introduce PartyLite to more people who could benefit as I have. The regulations you are proposing would hinder me from doing so – and would hinder others in starting their business in the timeframe they choose. Partylite dows not require money to start as a consultant - a "starter" show to earn a consultant's starter kit is all that is required. Hostess have the ability to turn their show into a starter show and get a head start as a consultant. Because I'm new at this, I didn't know to offer the option in one of my fisrt show, and two days later, the Hostess decided she'd like to be a consultant. Her show had already been submitted, so she had to work twice as hard to put together another show so soon. This company is so good and supportive to work with, to put obsticles in the way of an oppotunity like this would be unduly restictive. Please know that I’m thankful that we have the FTC working to protect average consumers like me, but in this case, you will be working against me, impacting my income, my future and my family’s future. You would also be impacting the possible income of deserving friends' future incomes. Please reconsider the regulations you are proposing. Respectfully yours, Beth Ann Torrey
