I am writing in opposition to proposed FTC regulations regarding the Direct Sales industry. In particular, the 7-day waiting period, and the "required" 10 references. PartyLite Gifts, Inc. offers a FREE starter kit, FREE training and business support. Should a consultant start and decide it's not for them, there is NO penalty for quitting and the consultants gets to keep EVERYTHING they earned in their starter kit, plus any profits they made. A 7-day waiting period would hinder my ability to sponsor new consultants - PartyLite often offers additional incentives in the form of free product for individuals who start their own business within a certain time period - the 7-day waiting period would result in a large number of individuals missing out on those incentives, making it more difficult for me to sponsor them, and thus affecting my income. My PartyLite income is critical to my family's livelihood - in addition to my husband's full-time job, I work a part-time job that only brings in $100 a week. PartyLite allows me to double that, while maintaining the flexibility and time to care for my three children without the expense of daycare. The "required 10 references" is simply an invasion of privacy and would be extremely time consuming. This list could easily change monthly, weekly, even daily. The cost of generating these lists every time someone considers the opportunity with PartyLite would be reflected in the cost of our product, which could result in reduced sales, again affecting my income. I am all for "shutting down" unscrupulous companies with illegitimate business opportunities, but it should not be done at the expense of those of us who are working hard and honestly to support our families and make a living. PartyLite is a company with NO risk attached, and making it more difficult to give the opportunity a try benefits NO ONE. Sincerely, Catherine Dau Independent PartyLite Consultant - 7 years
