Hello, I just wanted to comment a few details proposed in the new Business Opportunities Rule. First, I do want to say that I believe putting in mechanisms in place to help protect people is a good thing. However, often what happens is that good, law abiding companies and distributers find their work more difficult and those who would cheat still find a way around it. Spam is a perfect example of this. Also, there is enough information in books and on the Internet on how to evaluate business opportunities that people should take responsibility for their choices. Many complaints I see could be avoided if people did their research and read what they signed. Forcing a 7 day wait won't necessarily make someone do the research. I believe the 7 day wait won't help and will only hinder those of us who do business honestly. While it often does take 7 days or more for a person to make a decision, some people may have done their research before finding a distributer and will be ready to go. If there must be some sort of wait, 2 days gives ample time to research. Reporting the quit rate won't accurately represent the quality of the company program. People quit for a variety of reasons not just because they are unhappy with the program. If there is a quit rate, will there also be the rate that people re-join the same program? Perhaps a better solution would be to use BBB credibility reports. Is the company registered and is it addressing concerns? Or is the company with the Direct Selling Association, which has requirements that must be met before joining and a code of ethics to run by. Again, I do think there need to be safeguards in place but within reason. The majority of programs and representatives are working ethically and within the law. They shouldn't be penalized because of a few bad apples. Leslie Truex
