I am writing in reference to Business Opportunity Rule R511993. My wife Julie and I have owned a business affiliated with the Devos and VanAndel families' businesses Amway and Quixtar. We have been in our business since 1994 and have enjoyed success and growth with our business and in all aspects of our life. I am a pharmacist and we also own a community pharmacy in northern Wisconsin and we have five children ages 8 to 1. We are concerned with the proposed 7 day waiting period as it could dramatically affect a new business start-up and hamper the growth of our business. We have always encouraged people to do their due diligence in evalutaing our business model and provide reputable legitimate sources for them to review the opportunity for themselves so they can make a well informed intelligent decision to pursue a business of their own. The Devos and VanAndel families have run successful business since 1959 with many products mostly made in the US and with a 180 day unconditional money back policy. They do not require any minimum monthly purchasing and there are no recruiting fees. Over the years we have been in business, we have seen many other businesses come through and promote themselves "just like" Amway or Quixtar and then shortly for whatever the reason be shut down and leave the people out of money and with no opportunity. We encourage you to be very careful not to hamper our business by trying to protect people from illegitimate bsuinesses. We understand your goal but we know that we are not the problem as the Devos and VanAndel families are held in high regard in the business community exemplified by the fact that Jay VanAndel and his son Steve both served as the president of the US Chamber of Commerce. As far as dislcosing personal incomes we feel that we should have the option to do this but not forced as we certainly don't feel we should have to disclose any of our pharmacy income, etc. We do have average incomes that we can share with people and we can show copies of our checks if we want to share that information on request from people but we feel that it should be at our discretion as well as we don't want our names or personal information being handed out to people as refererences without our permission, we are sure you can understand how that could impact one's privacy. The Devos and VanAndel families operate businesses all over the world with integrity and high moral character that would make any American proud to be in a business model that allows free enterprise opportunities to people here in the US and all over the world (in approximately 83 countries now). This business is not a get rich scheme or a pyramid scheme, it is a legitimate business that will require work and an invest of one's time and energy to make it succeed. The sales and marketing plan has been time tested since 1959 and is highly profitable if approached properly with a legitimate business plan. We have been able to have success and help others learn from our experience through mentorship and it is truly a win-win business we are very proud to be involved with. As far as the litigation aspect is concerned within our business we feel that most of the litigation has no bearing on a person who is looking to start their own business as most of it is not significant in content. We mentor from successful business owners who operate with accountablilty and integrity and that is not always found in a business that is open to basically anyone who would like to own their own business. You can start as a business owner affiliated with Quixtar for around $70 and there is no mandatory purchasing monthly, no recruiting fees and you can put in as much effort as you want to. This is a legitimate business and it takes work!! The benefit is that you can do this business in your non-productive time in addition to your primary income source. We appreciate your time and look forward to you reply. Thank you!! Craig Smith
