Dear Sirs, I have just become aware of the new proposed Business Opportunity Rule. This particular ruling would unfairly hinder direct sales professionals in expanding their sales teams. There is an unjust implication that our businesses are illegitimate. While I cannot speak for all direct sales companies, my own company, as well as many I have purchased products from already provide full disclosure as to the costs and commission structures. In this and any other type of sales, one only gets out of it as much work as one puts into it. The American system of free enterprise works best when the government takes a hands off approach. I would encourage you to look at as many commission disclosures as possible from the direct sales industry, and you will see that the majority fully informs prospective consultants of the necessary information to make an informed decision. Finally, I would like to point out that the Direct Sales Association is extremely concerned about the integrity of its member companies, and requires certain standards are met prior to accepting new companies as members. While I am sure there are some unscrupulous companies out there, it is unreasonable to target an entire industry. If direct sales was so shady, Warren Buffet would not have purchased The Pampered Chef. Sincerely, Janice Gaskill Do-Re-Me & You
