While I understand the spirit of this rule is to protect the consumer against fraud and unscrupulous businesses, I feel that it is going to be very detrimental to the common person. I am an independent distributor of Young Living Essential Oils. This is an authentic, dependable company with 100% integrity. I have been with them over 2 years. This new FTC ruling being considered would definitely inhibit my business and create unncessary burdens to my company. These are the issues I have with this ruling: The required disclosure and earnings statements and the required list of all distributors who have cancelled their distributorship in the previous last two years will certainly cause the sponsoring process to become cumbersome and difficult. These requirements may create unnecessary alarm and concern about the legitimacy of the profession and my business opportunity to prospective distributors. The proposed seven day waiting period between receiving the disclosures and enrollment would likely cause a potential distributor to lose their enthusiasm for joining my company. The costs of complying with the requirements would increase expenses to the company which may be passed on through the selling price of goods or services we offer. In fact, the very nature of this ruling is evidence that the FTC does not truly understand that the vast majority of distributors conduct business ethically and honestly every day and that such a ruling threatens the livelihood of these individuals. Is it right that the more than 13 million independent distributors be wrongfully penalized because a very few people have caused the FTC to look negatively at our profession? No! I believe this FTC ruling is basically and morally wrong. It may even be unconstitutional. It certainly prohibits me from enjoying the freedom of running my own business without undue burdens. I appreciate the strength of the FTC and their important role in monitoring business practices so that people will be protected from corrupt organizations, etc. However, I feel that this particular ruling is off-base and needs to be reexamined. Maybe the FTC could ask for input from reputable direct sales companies on how we could achieve the same ends without these undue burdens. More and more stay at home moms, and others are finding direct sales the way to a better life, including myself. I have five children, I work outside the home part time and run my direct sales business part time. I am not on welfare, and I am able to give my children more of my time because of my direct sales business. I feel that much of this would be in jeopardy should this new ruling go into effect. With sincere gratitude for your service, Renee M. Suchy
