This letter is presented to encourage you to rethink the proposed Business Opportunity Rule. I have been in the Direct Sales industry for ten years and have enjoyed my association with New Vision and the many distributors I have met over the years. This business model allows me to be flexible with the time dedicated to the business and supplies much needed supplement to my Retirement income. I feel that some of the provisions would prove exceptionally difficult for me to comply with. The seven day waiting period would create unnecessary delays and incumber legitimate distributors with impractical record keeping and excessive administrative problems. This would have the effect of robbing the new distributors of the training and assistance in starting their business that I could otherwise provide leaving them vunerable to early failure. The references provision would be impractical and could very well createsome serious issues with individual privacy and safety issues. It would also add to additional record keeping and administrative problems that would detract from a distributors primary activity of making product sales as is the goal of any form of "Sales Rep" whether in Direct Sales or as a Company representative from such companies as Coca Cola, Anhauser Bush, etc. I appreciate the FTC's position to protect the populace from those individuals and companies that mimic ethical companies for unethical profit motives and agree that some measures need to be taken. I encourage the FTC to work closely with the member companies of the Direct Seling Association to develop a process to weed out those unscrupulus persons while allowing legitimate organizations to continue to provide a vehicle for individuals to realize some form of financial independance. Sincerely Charles Meyers
