Aloha, My name is Patricia. I am an independent distributor with Unicity International. I have been involved in various direct selling companies for approximately 3 years now. I am opposed to the "Business Opportunity Rule" for many reasons. I have had very positive experiences with the companies I have been involved with. The potential for financial and personal growth is awesome. I have evolved as a person in many ways because of direct selling. What I have learned in this area of my life I have been able to bring to my personal life which has improved my family life. I have also a way to earn money and help people at the same time. I am concerned that the Seven-Day Waiting Period will be seen as negative by my potential customers and partners. I can see this causing administrative problems in my organization, and it will cause unnecessary delays. As far as the Litigation Reporting part of the law--it is unfair because it doesn't distinguish between lawsuits won or lost. Nowadays people use litigation as a first means to resolve an issue and many times the litigation is meritless. As far as finding References, it is impractical to find the 10 nearest distributors. This impedes on the privacy and safety of my customers. I do not at all support this bill and I humbly ask that you look at this further. This bill will not hinder those companies that are fraudulent because they don't follow the laws anyway. This will hinder and impede upon the rights of those honest companies and the distributors that make up the company. These distributors are mothers and fathers trying to create a good home life and financial stability for their families. It seems to me that these types of laws are not the answer. Education of consumers is the answer. The government should create a website of legitimate, multi level marketing companies and the like and provide general information on these companies. It should work as does the Better Business Bureaus. It would be wonderful to be able to research the company I was thinking of joining through a government maintained website. Each company would be required to pass certain pre-set criteria to be able to be listed on that site. This seems to me would be a wonderful idea.
