I am writing to ask that you reconsider some of the requirements you are proposing to regulate the direct sales industry. I am a PartyLite Consultant and Leader who has been proud to be involved in this business for over 10 years. I began my business to earn some extra spending money, but quickly realized the potential of this business and within 3 months made it my full time career. The income from my PartyLite business has allowed us to put our daughter through college and graduate school without the need of loans. It has also paid for my sons wedding, numerous family vacations, and many improvements to our home and our way of life. The proposals you are suggesting would make my business extremely difficult and would definitely impact my income. Specifically, in terms of the reference requirement, I would never feel comfortable providing personal contact information of other people in PartyLite, nor would I want my own personal information given out freely. This is not only an invasion of privacy, but also would take a considerable amount of time and effort to keep track of local Consultants, both past and present. I feel my time would be better spent on working with and helping others who would like to enhance their lives through this incredible opportunity. The 7-day waiting period would also make it difficult for people who decide they want to start, but would miss out on current contests or promotions offered by PartyLite. This would affect both myself and the new Consultant. Please know that I am thankful that we have the FTC working to protect average consumers like me, but in this case, you will be working against me, impacting my income, my future and my family's future. Please reconsider the regulations you are proposing. Respectuflly yours, Sherri Smith Regional Vice President California Dreamin' Region
