Dear Sir or Madam: I am writing to express my concern with the proposed FTC Business Opportunity Rule R511993. I am an Independent Herbalife Distributor. I was a school teacher with 2 part-time jobs. When I turned 50 in 1998 I realized that I was going to be working for someone until I died and I wasn't ever going to have my goals and dreams. I started looking for a way to change my life and i found Herbalife. Through the stories I knew that if ordinary people could change their lives I could too. I knew I had to be serious, teachable, and willing to work to be successful. I knew I would have a coach who would always be there for me. I got on the products right away. I lost weight, gained a ton of energy and sailed through menopause without any symptoms! Being a product of the products I was able to talk to people about the results I got. I have many customers who have had amazing product results. One of my good friends at school lost 75 pounds in a year and is still on the products over 7 years later. I was able to quit all 3 jobs in 1999 and a year after that i made more in a month with Herbalife than I grossed monthly my 29th year teaching and I had the equivalent of a Master's Degree. Today I have a lifestyle I couldn't even dream about just over 8 years ago. I have some real concerns about the proposed rule. Since we are independent distributors our business and our success are our responsibilities. I would not want to discourage prospective distributors from even starting out by giving them a disclosure statement to sign that portrays only the negative side of the business (those who quit or those who want to assign blame to someone else for their inability to be successful). I also would not want distributors who are working hard to build their own businesses to have to be available to talk to people who are looking at the business under a sponsor other than themselves. In conclusion, I feel the rule imposes great restrictions on anyone who wants to take responsibility for his/her life. No one, and that includes the government, has a greater influence on a person's life than that individual himself/herself. Sincerely, Pamela J. Kingsley Executive President's Team Member
