I am responding to the proposed rule for U.S. business opportunities. It seems the FTC is trying to regulated and govern personal responsibility. Why should a person’s decision to participate in a business opportunity be any different from going in and making a purchase in any retail store? As long as the person is informed with the facts it should be up to the person to be able to make an immediate decision about the product being purchased or the business opportunity to participate in. If there is any doubt in the person’s mind, it is their responsibility, not a government agency, to get all the facts about purchasing a product or participating in a business opportunity. If there is to be any regulation, which I strongly oppose, I feel a rule should create a level playing field that would apply to all direct sellers in that a person considering the business opportunity be provided with clear, simple, and standardized income disclosures about the business opportunity. The rule should allow for a reasonable cancellation policy. The rule SHOULD NOT require any waiting period, at all, before a person can join in and register with the business opportunity. If the rule requires this, then the same should apply when a person wants to purchase a product from a retail store. A legitimate business opportunity that has provided a person with all the facts and answered their questions should not be treated any differently than any other business. There should be no requirement that any past litigation be disclosed. Again, no retailer is required to do this. There should be no requirement that financial records be disclosed. I believe that privacy is still a right in this country. If a business opportunity company wants to disclose financial records of their own accord so be it. The constant invasion of government into our private and business lives is unconstitutional. If the FTC wants to put out a rule for people than put out the rule telling people they are responsible for their own lives and their own actions, period!!! Cordially, Rick Flynn
