In response to the above Business Opportunity Rule I would like to comment that this Rule would negatively impact the direct selling industry and it's representiatives. The rule that you are proposing would cause unneeded alarm and concern about legititmate businesses within the direct selling industry. To comply with this rule will also add unnecessary additional expenses to the companies, their representatives and of course to the consumer. This rule also invades privacy. Providing personal information from previous or current representatives is frightening in the current identity theft area. I personally have been a victim and know firsthand that not much information is needed for these people to obtain much more private information. It seems that the information you are proposing in the rule to be supplied to prospective representatives is all negative. Previous or ongoing lawsuits?, number of representatives which cancelled within 2 years?, references for 3 years? I only wish I could have obtained this kind of information about some of my previous employers before I started working for them!! Can you imagine going into a job interview and asking them for 3 years worth of references. Or better yet - Do you have any previous or current lawsuits against you? and oh, by way I'd like a list of all your previous employees who left your organization within the last 2 years and please include their phone numbers!! Of course they are not going to comply and neither should we in our industry - this is a matter of privacy!!! I am assuming there are some unethical situations out there that have caused the proposal for this Business Opportunity Rule. This rule would punish the ethical companies and their representatives by imposing unneeded requirements. Why not punish those unethical companies or representatives instead of the other 13 million direct sellers that are in the industry today?
