Federal Trade Commission (office of the Secretary) 600 Pennsylvania Avenue Washington DC 20580 To Whom it may Concern: Reading that the Federal Trade Commission is proposing a new "Trade Regulations Rule on Business Opportunities" and as a Quixtar Independent Business Owner (IBO), I wish first to applaud the FTC for their guidelines about business. Knowing that some try to scam others, we need you, but I also applaud the leaders at Quixtar (and our own team leaders) for the integrity that abounds in all that they do. From the start of my business, all that we have heard during any teaching/training is to be honest. However, as one begins our business and moves forward, there is CONTINUAL learning, and not practical (or possible) to have every bit of information during a presentation, which gives the basics. I received substantial information during and following the basics to become successful, and in the years following, have found NONE of it to be false. Our leaders, myself, and our team tell prospects that it will take effort and time, and I believe that for the very low investment of approximately $300 - which includes registration fee, publications, products to sample, plus some getting started tools - that the potential is tremendous. However, SOME people simply do not want to work, and they are who become disgruntled, and complain, even though we, as leaders, are there to help them if they want help. I do NOT believe that there is ANY benefit whatsoever in a waiting period, because any of us would supply a refund in that same period, if one was requested. I am firmly AGAINST providing information about litigation involving Quixtar. It is unfair. We are business people like any others who have had lawsuits against them, such as Bausch & Lomb, who have litigation regarding infections from their contacts, doctors, and others who do not disclose such information. Walmart has had numerous lawsuits, and we do not see a notice posted on their front door. I do not perceive any benefit, either, from the proposal for other IBO's to give their prospects my (or other IBO's) name and phone number. I will give new IBO's the name and phone number of MY leaders for them to call for assistance when they cannot reach me. We do have business conferences where prospects can meet other IBO's and learn of their experiences, etcetera. And since from the beginning, I've been aware that I will be paid in direct proportion to the work that I do, I believe that disclosure of individual IBO's income has NO BEARING on what I can earn in MY business. It is against privacy and simply inappropiate. The Quixtar business is an EXCELLENT business, well managed, FAIR, and I, for one, would hope that you take fair consideration in this matter. Thank you. Marie Steffen
