Dear Federal Trade Commission Member, I am writing to you regarding your proposed regulations for those of us in the direct selling business. I am a PartyLite Leader and have been working in this business for nearly 7 years. In that time, I have been able to build an income that allows me to stay home with my kids and help run our family alpaca business. In addition, I have brought many people into this business, who have also been able to use this opportunity to support themselves and their families. The regulations you are planning would make it incredibly difficult to introduce anyone to this opportunity. One of the best things about this business is that anyone can start this business and be earning money within a timeframe of two weeks. Most people join PartyLite wanting and often needing to earn money right away, and your proposal would make them wait even longer. In addition, I cannot see myself sharing private information about other PartyLite Consultants and I certainly not want my private information shared without my consent. I also worry about what another 'ramdom, in their vicinity' consultant may say to a possible new consultant that I'm working with. Our kit is free and sometimes, unscrupulous people will take the kit and never be heard from again. I'd hate to have a sincere prospect of mine speak with this sort of person to get an endorsement of their experience with PartyLite. This could be a mess! Please reconsider your proposals to regulate legitimate, professional direct sellers like me. You will only end up impacting my income, my future and my family’s future. We don't pressure a new consultant to buy an expensive kit, our kit costs the new consultant NOTHING. It's FREE. If anything, they can be insincere and keep the free kit without fullfilling their commitment of holding 6 parties as our consultant agreement outlines. PartyLite has built in protections for new consultants including a program that they can earn extra free product....we don't encourage them at all to spend money on this opportunity. Respectfully Yours, Carolyn Marquette
