I am strongly opposed to the proposed Business Opportunity Rule R511993. While the FTC must protect the public from "unfair and deceptive acts or practices," this rule would make it extremely difficult for me to operate my business as a Shaklee Independent Distributor. The seven-day waiting period to enroll new distributors is very confusing and burdensome. Most of the people who sign a Shaklee application are consumers of the products. If they later wish to build a business, all they must do is supply Shaklee Corporation with their Social Security Number or Tax Identification Number. The Shaklee Member Kit only costs $19.95 and is far less than most consumer purchases, none of which require a waiting period. In addition, I am very uncomfortable disclosing information about prior purchasers nearest a prospective purchaser. It would tend to dissuade new people from signing up as distributors as they are concerned about their privacy, as well as identity theft! I have been a Shaklee distributor for over 35 years. Originally, I became a Distributor because I love the Company's products. Now I depend on this extra income to supplement my budget and provide a source of income for my retirement years. Please drop this burdensome and unfair ruling! Sincerely, Lorraine Rutherfurd
