The Stupidity of So Called Leaders Date July 14, 2006 Dear Sir or Madam: The following is a copy of a sample letter provided by The Direct Selling Association, through Gano Excel staff, regarding your proposed bill. In reading what Gano Excel's staff had said about your bill, I found the information very angering. It showed me that this so called bill was not very well thought out, and that it was drafted by an individual(s) who did not do their research (probably because they were lazy and thus should be FIRED immediately.) I am not against providing some level of protection for consumers, however the consumer has to take responsibility for their own actions and decisions. Consumers are constantly told "Buyer Beware", "Do your homework" and "don't get conned." And the vast majority of people don't get sucked in. But ultimately it is the individuals responsibility to protect themselves, not BIG BROTHER. Instead of having all legitimate MLM companies do so much administrative work, why does the Federal Government not create a listing of all non-legitimate companies (not just MLM companies) and include in this list the officers of the companies. Make this list public and require, only that independent reps inform prospects about the information and how to access it. (I suspect that ALL legitimate companies will provide this information in large bold print on their application forms. Why wouldn't they, they have nothing to hide.) Ultimately, if you require one industry to comply with these regulations, all industries should have to comply with them. If only one industry is required, then that one industry is being discriminated against. My next question is, "Why was this Bill drafted in the first place?" Is there such a big problem with MLM companies misrepresenting themselves and millions of people stupid enough to not do their homework before getting involved with a company or industry that they are absolutely and totally uninformed about. (Well a fool and their money are soon parted.) Or maybe there is another reason. Maybe "Big Business" doesn't like the fact that it is loosing many of it's top people (people who have become disillusions with the concept of get a good education, a good job then get fired just before you can collect your pension, thus leaving you on the street broke and without any possible opportunity to get another good job (same paying) which will allow you to retire and not be in poverty.) I can only imagine what would happen to the economy if all business's were required to comply with these regulations. People would get feed up with all of the and the economy would collapse. The United States of America would become a Third World Country. The Black Market would flourish as people would not have to wait seven days to buy a loaf of bread and milk. It is imperative for the authors of this bill and all who will vote on it to remember a nation is nothing without its people and that MILLIONS of US Citizens are involved in MLM's. Some becoming multi-millionaires, some only making enough so that only one of the spouses has to work outside the home and some only making a few dollars a month. But all had the FREEDOM to make their own choice, as quickly or with as much time as needed, but none the less the FREEDOM to make their won choice. If you take this FREEDOM from them, what other FREEDOM'S are you willing to take (or have taken). Take enough and the people will no longer feel FREE. When that happens, they will revolt. Next time you want to draft a Bill, do your HOMEWORK. Involve the legitimate companies. They all want to protect their industry and get the Scum out. They will be more than happy to help you draft a Bill that will work for everyone. James Hamilton P.S. The USA is not the only country where most MLM's operate. If the atmosphere in the US is not consucive to a good working environment, the MLM companies will move to other countries, contries without restrictions. Consider the consequences of your actions.
