I am concerned about the proposed Business Opportunity Rule you are considering. I believe it would have a negative impact on my direct selling business as an Independent national Sales Leader with The Longaberger Company. The proposed 7-day waiting period is unnecessary because our company has a buy-back policy that protects those that change their mind. This section may make the potential recruit feel that there is something wrong with the opportunity. This would be a detriment to the consumer who is ready to begin their business immediately. In 7-days they can have their contact in, business kit received and start making a commission on their sales. I believe the requirement to disclose all information regarding lawsuits even when found innocent is unfair. The Longaberger Company is a very ethical company and will do everything possible to satisfy the customer. Because there are some people of our society that sue quickly, it puts all company's at a disadvantage. The proposed rule to disclose the information of prior purchasers is very disturbing and makes me very uncomfortable. In a time that identity theft is a growing issue you would be adding additional cause for concern to the consumer. Adding the clause that the purchaser of the kit would have their contact information disclosed to future buyers would make anyone think long and hard about signing and beginning their business. I would have missed out on this opportunity had this type of sentence been in the contact I signed many years ago. It seems to me that this ruling would require additional time to complete and publish paperwork as well. I have been an Independent Longaberger Consultant for more than 18 year. I joined the company as a consultant because I loved the product and now know the flexibility and advantages of owning my own business. The extra income it provides helps supplement our budget for everything from college tuition to monthly bills. I feel the passage of this ruling would have a negative impact on my life. I believe this new rule has many unintended consequences that would have a negative impact on the consumer. I appreciate the protections the FTC give toward consumers, but I feel this ruling would not be a way to continue the positive protection of American people.
