Federal Trade Commission/Office of the Secretary, Room H-135 (Annex W) RE: Business Opportunity Rule, R511993 Dear Sir or Madam: I am writing this letter because I am concerned about the proposed Business Opportunity Rule R511993. I believe that in the form it is presented, it could be a detriment to the success of my small business. I am an independent distributor for Xango, a nutrional company. I have been an indepenent distributor for them for 1 1/2 years. The nutrional aspects of the juice have made a great difference in my overall health, as well as the health of others. I enjoy the fact that I can work from home, when I want. This leaves me more time to spend with my family and friends. The stress level is much less than I would have at another job, which would require many more hours. This country was built on the dreams of small business owners and it is what keeps our country thriving. This proposed change, I believe, threatens to destroy hundreds of small business, mine included. The 7 day waiting period seems to be an unnecessary component. My company, Xango, already embraces a 100% buyback policy. The waiting period would give the public a doubt as to my reputation and professionalism; as well as that of the product I highly believe in. Under this waiting period requirement, the paperwork would become redunant and overwhelming. Keeping more detailed records and sending reports into the company would require more paperwork and time than is already required of my small business for the government. Finally, the proposed rule requires disclosure of a minimum of 10 prior purchasers nearest to the prospective purchaser. That is a violation of the inividual's privacy. I sell a nutrional juice that I believe should be able to be purchased and taken on an individual and private basis. I certainly do not want my name and information given out to people I don't know. It is my individual right to consume this product without making a public announcement about it. This also rises the issue of identity theft. If the wrong person or people get this required information, it opens up a whole new world for the dishonest people who prey on the vulnerability of others. What happened to our rights to protect our own privacy? It is a completely unimaginable process that almost makes it seem as though we have no rights as individuals to protect ourselves and our privacy. Please stop whatever individuals came up with this idea. What exactly are their intentions and what would they have to gain? Listen to the citizens and small businessowners who just want to be treated in the same respectful manner that other big business owners enjoy. Thank you for taking time to read this letter and acting on the small business owners behalf. Sincerely, Catherine Sportsman Independant Xango Distributor
