I am a single woman, in my 50's. I am developing this business to fund my retirement years, and I have limited financial resources to use. I applaud the FTC's efforts to eliminate fraud and misrepresentation in our industry. However, I have serious concerns about some of the specific proposals. One, like any other business, we build a client list, and we cannot give away this list to others. The proposal concerning getting referrals of others currently in the business would be giving our prospects to other people, who haven't worked for them. I have never known any other type of business that released its bottom line profits to people outside their enterprise. This is an invasion of privacy. Also, I would not have access to anyone else's profit figures from the business. I do make a practice of telling my prospects what the average return is on the various levels in the business. I certainly have no way of even knowing what lawsuits, allegations against the corporation, etc. are. I always refer my prospects to the Better Business Bureau for such information as may be available. I do believe that the practice of paying people for recruiting new people, or the practice of forcing people to buy a mandatory amount of product should be made illegal, and this should be enforced.
