There should be some restrictions to the way some direct selling businesses conduct themselves. There are a lot of fraudulant and/or manipulative practices and these companies need restriction. Unfortunately, the businesses that conduct themselves in this manner reflect badly on the whole realm of direct selling. The FTC is right to try to implement restraints to weed these companies out, but also need to be sure to not put such restraints in place that would punish the fair and legal direct selling businesses. The Quixtar business opportunity is a model business opportunity for the direct selling industry. We have been affiliated with the company since its inception in 1999 and have always seen it run with the utmost of integrity and fiscal responsibility. I do not believe that the proposed rules would help our business, but instead will make it much more difficult for individuals to start their own home based business. The Quixtar opportunity is a chance for people with ambition and character to thrive, as it is headed up by families of integrity. We own a traditional business also, and the proposed rules for the direct selling businesses are much stricter than those of traditional businesses. If prospective business owners would just enter into a direct selling business with as much dedication as a traditional business (providing it is a just business opportunity), then there would never be this much concern about the businesses. The fact that it is much easier to begin an at-home business also means it is much easier to quit. People sometimes are looking for the "something for nothing" business or a get rich quick scheme. These people enter into a business contract with no intentions of working towards a reasonable business goal. When there is no effort, there is no income. Unfortunately, people don't like to accept responsibilty for failure, but it takes as much work in direct selling as it does in traditional business. This is the land of opportunity. Please do not put such restrictions on the great businesses out there (like the Quixtar opportunity) that will limit people's potential in this great country. There are so many people that are unable to start a traditional business out there, but an at-home opportunity can be exactly what they need. I costs everything you have to run a traditional business, our Quixtar business can be run on a shoestring budget. Thank you for not implementing the proposed restrictions. There must be another way to keep fradulant schemes out of the marketplace. We are proud to be in business with people of character and intregrity. Free enterprise is the reason our country is so admired in the world, but character is what keeps our country great.
