Ann Barry Barry Associates  July 17, 2006 Federal Trade Commission/Office of the Secretary, Room H-135 (Annex W) 600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20580 Re: Business Opportunity Rule, R511993 Dear Sir or Madam: I am writing again to express strong opposition to the proposed Business Opportunity Rule R511993. The rule as proposed would make it very difficult for me to operate my business as a Shaklee Independent Distributor for the following reasons: My Shaklee business is my livelihood. To ask of me and any small business owner to comply with burdensome paperwork, needing a copy of each disclosure statement different for each person I approach on the opportunity, having their application for a period of three years, for this to apply to our members who are exploring the opportunity for fees costing less than a common household appliance of $500, having a seven day waiting period for them, and providing names of 10 references living closest to prospects and anyone signed up in the past 3 years makes it almost impossible to comply and is a huge disincentive for growth. I’ve spent a dedicated 30 years of my life developing the trust of my group. This proposed rule makes a mockery of that effort, and it sends the message of distrust, secrecy, and makes companies like Shaklee who have been in business longer at a definite disadvantage to new start up companies. I thought we respected history and longevity. The dreams we’ve help millions of people build because of good old-fashioned integrity and hard work would be destroyed with this terrible R511993. Are you aware of what devastation this can mean for companies, and small businesses? I thought we wanted to move America forward with new growth. This is one of the last opportunities for the little guy to dream big, work hard, and make it happen. With all the proposed changes, it’s like 9/11 and Katrina happening again. Please, consider striking down this Business Destruction Rule R511993. It is not a good thing! . Thank you for considering my comments. Sincerely, Ann Barry
