The proposed Changes might seem to be a help for consumers interested in having a home based business, however it seems unusually limiting. In a situation like Shaklee, where most distributors began as customers who loved the results of using the products so much they shared the information with others and kind of backed into having a business, it would be totally unnecessary to protect them by delaying them becoming a distributor once they have made that decision. Delaying would cost them earnings from the orders they have placed for products. Since the cost to become a distributor is significantly less than my weekly grocery bill for two people, protecting a consumer in a case of that small an investment is not really needed. We've all spent money for something we were sorry about later but if the amount is small then we just consider it a learning experience and move on. Be it a pair of shoes or movie tickets or even a car. Even $500. is not much of an investment for a business. I don't feel the consumer needs to be further protected for such a low investment. There is already so much paperwork and rules to follow in having a business with city, state and Federal Tax requirements, plus the day to day operation of the business. Why is the government trying to make it even more difficult? The goal is to develop clientelle and provide customer service. That is a full time job already. Keeping track of more and more details and paperwork that don't actually contribute to the business takes money, time and energy away from our businesses. And I don't see that it serves a purpose for the consumer. So why have more rules and paperwork if it benefits nobody? Since most Shaklee distributors are customers who decide to become distributors at a later date and then just provide their SSN it is unnecessary to have a waiting period. A Distributor Kit is less than $50 and not required. If a new distributor wanted to return it they could for a 90% refund, which is better than I get at some stores. Really not necessary to have a delay period. Providing 10 identities of other distributors within the new distributors area is ridiculous. I wouldn't want my personal info given out and neither would you. Get real! Nobody is going to sign up to do business with a manufacturer who is going to disclose their personal information. Nobody wants to do business with a vendor who is going to make their personal info public. These changes to the current rules would create a difficult if not impossible situation for me to grow my business by taking on partners in the future. In these days of economic difficulty for most families a lot of people are looking for a way to supplement their incomes and starting their own business appeals to many. Why make it more difficult for us all? Thank you for considering my opinions on the proposed legislation. \
