I implore the US Government to enact laws that will put an end to the unwelcome and uninvited bombardment of the public by SPAM and other forms of electronic solicitation via the Internet. Despite the fact that I purchased an anti-SPAM program last year, the SPAM is getting increasingly sophisticated and more and more of it is reaching my inbox. Additionally, POP-UPs are becoming just as big a problem as the SPAM. Often the subject, or product, of these messages are of a sexual nature. I have three children that use the Internet frequently for communicating with friends and conducting school research. It is impossible for me to be present with them at all times to protect them from this assault of unwanted advertising. Thus they are recieving and reading a lot of information that I would never expose them to. My wife and I have repeatedly had to explain things that we never intended our children to be aware of or exposed to at their age. In addition to the email the POP-UPs have become a huge interuption and distraction and some are no less offensive. I often have to wait several minutes for all the POP-UPs to download before I can continue. This is extremely disruptive. I had to wade through no fewer than six POP-UPs from the time I opened my web browser before I was able to reach this government website. It has reached the point that the Internet is has almost lost its usefulness as an efficient means of communication and information gathering. I liken these advertising interruptions to being on the phone and having someone continually interrupting your conversation to sell you something. Or, to be reading a book and constantly have someone shove some picture ad in front of your face. If either of the latter were to occur we would quickly see laws enacted to put an end to it. The time has come to end these practices on the Internet. Please restore the Internet to the wonderful communications and information gathering medium that it was and return its usefulness to the people. Thank you. *REDACTED PERSONAL INFORMATION*
