I sincerely hope that our elected officials will give this their very timely attention. I am a homeowner--not a business-My children who work for business say the same thing--"CAN THE SPAM". No matter what I do, unsubscribe from emailings, (when I do that-the "junk" just doubles), and I report the garbage to the webmaster, but nothing works. Something isn't right. This system is being abused at its fullest. I never know what is going to enter my email box, and since I get html, the pictures many times are included. As a grandmother (and I'm no prude--I worked in Intensive Care at a major trauma center for 20+ years as an R.N.-so nothing shocks me) I have to ban my grandchildren from the room, when I open my mail box--since I never know what kind of picture is going to open up-- so I feel this pollution in the name of the first amendment has crossed the line. I don't solicitate for this trash, nor am I interested in little children as sexual toys, slaves, or whatever the mailer has intended, nor am I interested in the illicit drugs or the "so called" legal ones either that are available-and the get quick rich schemes, "faget it." The pornography--thats a whole other letter, cable descramblers, the list is endless. How can we as consumers put a stop to this violation of our privacy--I don't want the stuff. The difficulty for me & others, lies in the fact I have to wade thru it, in order to retrieve the emails that I want to see. At least when I see a suspicious letter come in the mail, at least I have the perogative of throwing it in the trash. I play by the rules of each website I enter, but this selling of my email address to every one who wants it for micro-cents, has to stop. My solution would be to charge each and every one of the solicitors at least a cent, or even a nickle for each email address they solicit. I believe its about that much for "junk mail" thru the postal service, minus the cost of postage. HEY, CHARGE THEM the price of a stamp, & use the monies towards our national debt. Now there's a real solution. You folks put a stop to the unsolicited telephone calls, thank you, now please put a stop to the unsolicited junk emails. I receive approximately 150 to 200 a day, can you believe that, and I don't even own a business. I just surf the net. As I stated in the beginning, I feel this is an infringement on my first amendment rights, and please consider charging each solictor the price of a stamp, if they want to purchase the addresses, at least that way the monies could be put to good use. Thank you, *REDACTED PERSONAL INFORMATION*
