Re: CAN-SPAM Act Rulemaking, Project No. R411008HiI think this act did nothing but pacify people into thinking our government can somehow do something when it simply cannot. And yes, I realize the act only just started; it will take time. I just don't notice any of the spammers running scared. ...The only businesses affected by Can-Spam are legitimate marketers, who for the most part were doing just fine, thank you very much. I rarely get an e-mail from a legitimate business offering services, and when I do I don't have to be concerned that by asking to be taken off their list I'll now start getting hundreds more offers. ...The spam offers will not stop - you can't legislate the activity of those who don't follow rules to begin with... There are so many problems and costs associated withthis idea, and so much damage done to consumers andbusinesses alike, that I feel I must urge you toconsider this matter most carefully. They're not who CAN-SPAM was designed to put out ofbusiness, but this requirement will very likely havethat effect.I was quite surprised at the potential problems thisruling could involve, and urge you in the strongestpossible terms to reconsider its implementation in lightof these problems,Best Regards,Jonas CarlstromGothenburg, Sweden
