Re: CAN-SPAM Act Rulemaking, Project No. R411008To the Commissioners,Are you crazy? No, I hope not.I do approve of your efforts to curb the problem of SPAM, but a new requirement that I understand you're considering just doesn't make sense. This would require merchants (I am one) to main opt-out email suppression lists. Currently, if someone opts off my list at northwest-books.com, they're gone, poof! If you want legitimate emailers (My list currently has a few dozen customers, all of whom opted in) to stop emailing, then we could do that. But, my little (and I do mean little) business would hurt. What if these suppression lists got into the hands of a SPAMmer? Wow! That would really help matters. I do hope you keep looking for solutions to what I consider a major business problem, that of SPAM. But, this isn't the way to do. I, personally, think the ultimate solution is going to be technical, not legislative. Thanks for your attention, Art Shotwell
