Re: CAN-SPAM Act Rulemaking, Project No. R411008To the Commissioners,Your efforts to curb the problem ofunsolicited bulk email is much appreciated. However, I am concerned aboutthe proposed requirement for merchants to maintainsuppression lists.Sir, please consider most carefully, while there are many problems and costs associated withthis idea, and there will be as much damage being done to consumers and businesses alike.Legitimate publications available on the net will definetely suffer very very serious damages in the requirement of the use of suppression lists. My specific concern is for harm topublishers who require permission from the consumers prior to adding them to any list. The suppression lists could easily fall intothe hands of spammers, leading to more spam instead of less, a problem we consumers face everyday. Not only spam, even virus infected files come with it.The 'spammers' are the ones that CAN-SPAM should design to put them out of business, not the legitimate merchants. The potential problems this ruling could involve is in a hugh magnitude, and urge you in the strongestpossible terms to reconsider its implementation in light of the aforesaid.Respectfully,Alan *REDACTED PERSONAL INFORMATION*
