A newer type of unsolicited advertising that uses bandwith that the consumer is paying for is the Windows Messenger Service spam. This is advertising that is sent through a service in the Windows Operating System that was originally intended to send messages to network users from the network administrator (ie. system messages that all users on a network would need to recieve that the administrator would deem necessary for the day to day operations). This type of spam is extremly intrusive and all the end user has to be is connected to the internet to be open to this intrusive, and often, explicit type of spam.
