Problems - 1) Pop up adds and the ads that have replaced pop up adds. 2) Spy ware is a real problem. 3) I have received email for other unrelated internet users (regarding this persons personal information on a loan) This needs to be addressed as well. 4) When you try to opt out of receiving the email, the website does not respond or accept your opt out, thus spam continues. 5) AOL and other providers should not allow for automatic addition of someone's email address to your address book. Fines for violating the Do Not Email Registery need to be high and enforced. There also needs to be in place a way to opt out of emails. Some emails I have received state they have an opt out, but the opt out option does not work. Also, concern about more spam in the time frame right before the act becomes effective. Need a way to Stop Spam before this act comes into effect, so I do not spend time opting out of all the emails sent by spammers claiming I was a previous client. Need to address spam from foreign countries, as well. Rewards for reporting violations need to be sizeable, to encourage reporting. Also need to market this to the public. CAN SPAM act needs persons to enforce it, or it will not work. Subject lines for all spam needs to say it is an "advertisement" in the subject line. For free, all companies with online yellow pages (switchboard, bigyellow, etc.) need to allow a small business to add its Business Name, address, name of owner(s), business listing by subject, telephone number and web site and/or email addresses to the yellow pages sites, as not all telephone companies share this information with all the other companies, or it takes them months to update their listings. This needs to be added within 5 work days. If a small business owner misses the yellow pages add, no one knows they exist until a year later. I know of some small businesses who are not even listed in the Yellow Pages, and they have been around for years. The phone companies do not have the information or refuse to publish it for some reason. That in itself can hurt a small business.
