Re: CAN-SPAM Act Rulemaking, Project No. R411008 To the Commissioners, I applaud your efforts to curb the problem of unsolicited bulk email. However, I am EXTREMELY concerned about the proposed requirement for merchants to maintain suppression lists. My business is run online. My customers and subscribers voluntarily subscribe to be on my email list. What's wrong with that? Why should they and/or I be punished? I never send anything to anyone who doesnt' want it. If you go through with this you will be destroying the livelihood of those of us who use email to market our services to those who WANT to be marketed to. Please think for a second what it would do to you if you ran a respectable business online that sold products and/or services to those consumers who derive great benefit from them. It would devastate you. Yes, SPAM is a big problem. I get way too much email that I never asked for. But please don't penalize the rest of us for the actions of others. Respectfully, James R.
