Re: CAN-SPAM Act Rulemaking, Project No. R411008 Dear Commissioners, Thank you for tackling the problem of SPAM email. I realize that this is a huge problem that should be curbed, but unfortunately the requirement for legitimate businesses to maintain suppression lists could become detrimental. The problems and costs to my businesses and many others like it could put me out of business and I am sure that was not your intent. I would like to encourage you to carefully consider the requirement of suppression lists. The CAN-SPAM act was designed to stop people who actually send SPAM. Publishers who gain the consumer's permission before adding them to a list do not send SPAM. To require every publication that advertises a particular product to remove their advertising from a consumer because of the consumer's request to be removed from just one company's list will cause major financial and time consuming problems that I cannot afford. Please consider all the possible implications of this aspect of the CAN-SPAM act and rule against the requirement of suppression lists. Respectfully, Paula Farris Arizona, United States
