Re: CAN-SPAM Act Rulemaking, Project No. R411008 To the Commissioners, Please don't use a shotgun to swat flies. Thousands of legitimate businesspeople who use e-mail as a means to keep in touch with customers will be impacted by these regulations. Spammers, using servers in remote parts of the world, won't. I operate a double opt-in e-mail newsletter relating to writing children's books. My recipients have specifically asked for, and truly want, these newsletters. However, if overreaching regulation leads to confusion, misunderstanding and, since this is America, lawsuits, I won't be able to continue this completely legitimate endeavor. The internet is a great hope for small businesspeople, and will play a role in defining this century's American economy. Don't short-circuit this remarkable opportunity with short-sighted regulation. Please, whatever action you take, take extra care to watch out for the interests of legitimate e-mailers like me. Respectfully, Jon Bard Fort Collins, CO *REDACTED PERSONAL INFORMATION*
