This would especially impact people who subscribe to small "niche" publications such as ours because their email addresses would then be distributed to large mailing organizations and the potential for misuse of these types of lists is significant. I am afraid that these "opt out" lists would fall into the hands of mass mailers offshore who would use them to spam our subscribers. I think this was perhaps a well intentioned idea but one that would cause havoc if implemented in exactly this way.
