Dear Sir, I am appalled at the effects that this legislation can potentialy have on the Affiliate Marketing Industry, if the rumours now rife amongst the various participants are to be believed, in the administration of this Act. Although I live in the UK, I shall be subject to it since I operate in the US by virtue of the Web. It does seem totally inequitable that the actions of a comparitively few spammers (requiring the introduction of this Act) can effectively destroy the Affiliate Marketing Industry overnight, by a nightmare miasma of legal restrictions which will prevent the legitimate promotion of products, previously permitted. Most genuine Affililate Marketeers already incorporate an 'unsbscribe button' at the bottom of their letters, thus enabling any disillusioned recipients to prevent any further mailings. Surely this could be made mandatory to so prevent any recipient being bothered further. and so be effective in restricting this spamming effect, which is the legitimate purpose of the legislation. I am not aware of any further proposed legislation to effectively prevent advertising on Street hoardings or TV, which can equally be an irritant to the passer by/viewer, so why should the EMail media be the sole recipient of this extremely limiting legislation now? I suspect that the administrative effects of this Act will be to effectively obliterate the livelihoods of most existing Affiliate Marketeers, by heavyhanded legalistic restrictions. Thus through the removal of hardwon democratic rights and freedoms to advertise and earn a legitimate living from advertising in this form, this niche occupation, will disappear virtually overnight. I hope and pray rhat this will not be the case, but it does depend very much as to how you lawmakers interpret and administer the everyday introduction of it's tenets. Please prove me wrong! Yours sincerely
