Re: CAN-SPAM Act Rulemaking, Project No. R411008 To the Commissioners, Thank you for the opportunity to express my feelings about the proposed Act. This Act will cause legitimate publishers to be put out of businesses and will also remove the ability of all internet users from receiving valuable free content on the Web. Small business owners like myself, who only send e-mails to people that “opt in” to our list do not have the time, money or ability to keep up with Opt Out lists of other publishers. Each e-mail is sent out with unsubscribe directions. If a customer no longer wishes to receive information form a particular publisher, he can easily opt out. That is very simple. To complicate this will put an end to many businesses. It will hurt the subscribers as well. Subscribers are looking for free information on subjects. Without the ability of the publisher to advertise other products in these e-mails, people looking for free information will lose out. I myself have signed up to many lists, looking for free information on topics. I do not care if they advertised a product that I opted out of already. If I bought a magazine, would I care if a product were advertised that I did not want? If I did, I would not buy the magazine again. If the e-mail has something that I am against, I will easily opt out. If you have any questions and would like to discuss this, my phone number is *REDACTED PERSONAL INFORMATION* . Thank you for your time. Respectfully, David Rivera New York, USA
