The new Rule tells manufacturers to use the dry cleaning symbols from the ASTM's 2007 guidelines, which do not allow care instructions for any solvent except perc and hydrocarbon.FTC has to the update the ASTM's guidelines to include GreenEarth which is a solvent in use for over 10 years and is greener than perc and hydrocarbon.
Wet Cleaning on labels can confuse consumers:For example, consumer, who has never heard of wet cleaning, thinks that they can now wash garments at home because the label is no longer clear about the risk. The term "Professional" would need to be added to describe "Wet Cleaning"."Professional Wet Cleaning"
