As a consumer, I strongly support requiring manufacturers to use a Professional Wet Cleaning label. From my experience, many wet cleaners are better able to process my clothes without harmful odors and texture. This process also is safer profess for my health and the environment.
Without a requirement for a Professional Wet Clean label, consumers are at a disadvantage. We will be unfairly deceived into believing that “Dry Clean” or “Dry Clean Only” is our only option when there is clearly a better alternative.
If a Wet Cleaning label were required, consumers and cleaners would benefit. If not, then consumers will continue to be deceived by the manufacturer as well as dry cleaners.
I urge the FTC to require a “Professional Wet Clean” label on apparel. The current proposed rule to allow labeling will not do enough to provide equity and fairness for consumers and professional cleaners. I request that the FTC hold a hearing or workshop on this rule and to further research as necessary to protect consumers.
A concerned consumer.
