Submission Text
As a parent, I am concerned that the COPPA rule has not been updated in over 10 years. In that time, the online landscape has changed dramatically, and our children's participation has changed with it. I would like to see an update to COPPA that reflects this change by providing safeguards to our children, such as restrictions being placed on gathering personally identifying information. This would include the ip address, location, screen and user names, and pictures of children without the express permission of their parents. This would go a long way to showing our children that their online identities are something to be protected, and that privacy is an important part of their online experience.
