As a mother of two very Internet-active young boys, I urge the FTC to make sure that the COPPA rules are updated to reflect today's online environment. Everyone wants their kids to be safe in this new world, and an important part of that is securing personal information and limiting targeted advertising.
To ensure that kids are safe online, COPPA rules must require operators to ask parental permission before collection of children's IP addresses, location, screen/usernames, and any visual identifiers such as video or photos. This is just common sense. It's what American families want the FTC to enact.
