I believe consumers should be allowed to request a free copy of their score and report every one or two years, and at the same time drop the requirement to obtain a free report if denied credit. If a consumer had free access to a score and report before hand, they may be able to resolve an issue that would have led to a denial in the first place. I believe this would save the consumer and credit bureaus some time and money. I also feel that if more people had access to a free report once in a while that the industry as a whole may more accurately reflect data for individuals as this would give more consumers the chance to see what is actually being reported on them. I really think that no matter how reasonable the fee, most people won't even request a copy because they won't want to have to full with sending payment as well as putting their request in writing.
