Any proposal that allows debt collectors to further abuse clients, debtors, or family members of debtors, whether deceased or living, is a bad practice. The commission must admit that given the number of legitimate complaints that this agency receives annually regarding debt collector abuses, opening up more people to such abuses will do nothing to benefit anyone except those persons and agencies that are already known for abusive tactics and a total disregard for the spirit and letter of the law. Many of these agencies are owned and operated by convicted felons, self declared attorneys who are not attorneys, and ruffians who use abusive, fraudulent, and illegal tactics that should be curbed rather than expanded.
