My boyfriend purchased insurance on his Chase VISA card that would pay off his bill in case of his death. After he died of cancer, I was appointed executor of his estate. His VISA bill was under a thousand dollars, but, because in insurance contract stated that the VISA insurance would pay off the bills, I refused to pay. I was hounded for two years--phone calls and letters. The bill was sold (I guess) to one company after another. Each time I told the debtors that Greg was dead and they needed to go after his insurance. It finally stopped when I gave one caller Greg's new address--the Fort Snelling cemetery. There needs to be a crack down on the "pay your bills after you die" insurance!
